The Chinese Rolls-Royce Phantom Look-alike

Hongqi HQD

Everybody knows that many Chinese products are more or less exact copies of Western products. I have already covered some embarrassing Chinese cruisers copies, but this time we are not talking vehicles for people who try to look cool. This time we are talking vehicles for presidents.
I give you the Chinese Rolls-Royce Phantom Look-alike: Hongqi HQD. It is as similar to the real Rolls-Royce as humanly possible. It would be the exact same car if it weren’t for small details here and there (the headlights for example).
It might be because of legal issues, but it is not possible to buy a Hongqi HQD at the moment. It is still a concept model (or should I say concept copy), but it might enter production some day.
It is so much the same car, that not even the price is different. A real Rolls-Royce Phantom costs around $340,000, while the Hongqi HQD will cost around $300,000 (according to First Automobile Works, the owners of the Hongqi brand).
I have no idea how they can expect anyone to pay $300,000 for a copy of the real thing. My guess is that only the Honqi bosses will drive a Hongqi HQD if they ever start producing it. Everyone else will go for the real thing at just $40,000 more.
